In accordance with our plan to update the rulebook this year, the combat section of the rulebook has been rewritten. The actual changes are few, and small, while much of the rework is concentrating on eliminating inconsistencies, and updating skills and policies that have been changed. There has been a significant amount of wording added to clarifying things that most of us already know, but that aren't actually written down anywhere, like rules for bows, and what boffer fighting actually is.
The actual changes are as follows:
- Courtesy Armor, Negate, Maim, Knockback, and trip all added
- Simplified weapon types from individual weapons, down to weapon categories. There is now no functional difference between a short sword, a gladius, a wakizashi, or a short club.
- Eliminated the term 'full plate' from the armor list, since there was no clear difference between it and regular plate.
- Added 'Light Cloth' which is armor value zero.
This is an ongoing process, and any obvious errors or typos should be reported so that they can be eliminated. The current plan for those people who have training in multiple weapons in the same category (Easy, Average, Skilled, or Hard) is to refund the points for the lowest level of the two (or more) weapon skills that are made redundant. Keep track of these changes though, since if this change is temporary, you'll want to know what you had if we roll back.
Note that this is still in the testing phase, and so if these changes create any unforeseen major issues we are willing to talk about how to fix them.
